The teacher establishes, communicates, and maintains clear expectations for student behavior.
As a Zoom host and co-host, managing behavior is simple because you can mute, turn off cameras, and kick out anyone who is disruptive. I have had two occurrences of inappropriate comments by two different students. One student received a warning of a potentially parent-teacher conference. Another student, at another time, was removed from the call; we continued as normal. I have only had one in-person disruption. Two students were talking and laughing loudly in class. You could hear them in the background of the call. Those students were warned multiple times and eventually told to separate. The chat is always open for students to communicate with the teacher publicly or privately. It is unusual if we have to disable the chat. Most of the time, we have to encourage the students to participate in the chat because we do not want passive learners. The Zoom expectations are posted on the class BLEND page, and in-person students see this daily bulletin board by the classroom door.
